Giving thanks for the support!

I don’t get to hang around with my Spanish speaking family much. They live in other parts of the country and I live in Florida. You would think that Florida has a huge Latin community that would expose my child to Spanish, and it does. But guess what, the part of the community that speaks Spanish is not made up of 5 year olds. Those 5 year olds are not speaking Spanish, they’re speaking English. In fact, my son has been hanging out with his older cousin all week. Does his older cousin speak Spanish? nope. However, his grandparents do, they speak it primarily at the house. I hate to say it, but I felt so proud when my little one said “yo tengo hambre” (I’m hungry). It really felt like an accomplishment to see him feel free to express himself in a different tongue than his native one. His cousin looked at him and didn’t think much of it. I’m not sure it was much of an influence on his cousin. But I felt a sense of accomplishment come over me. For those parents out there are in the struggle, there is hope. It can be done. If we stick together we can all do it together. And today I’m thankful for that community, THANKS EVERYONE!
